Chester Thornless Blackberry
Chester offers an abundance of exceptionally flavored blackberries on vigorous thornless canes. Yields are generally 10-15 pounds per plant. Many seasons, it will actually produce 2 crops in one year - 1 summer crop and 1 fall crop. This is one of the best cultivars of blackberries for a home garden or commercial production. The fruit is firm and stores very well.
The thornless blackberries ripens for about 4-6 weeks and will begin producing heavy crops in mid July in Staten Island, NY. Cbester requires very little maintenance. It is disease and pest resistant.
This semi-erect blackberry variety doesn’t need a trellis to thrive, and can tolerate heat and humidity that other varieties can’t handle. They can be planted in the ground or in a container.
