Pawpaw trees produce custard, mango, and banana tropical-flavored fruits which can easily be grown in COLD climates.  They are an exotic and very unique flavor to experience.  Take out your spoon and eat it fresh or use the pulp to make cakes, cookies, ice cream, sorbets, or puddings.  They have a smooth, creamy texture and a floral, aromatic scent.

The Northeast Select Seedlings have been grown from seeds collected from fruits weighing over 8 oz. and from mature trees producing crops reliably in Ithaca, NY for many decades.

The NYC Select Seedlings have been grown from seeds collected from fruits weighing over 8 oz and growing on mature trees producing crops reliably in New York City for many decades.  Here is a cool video from the pawpaw patch that the NYC Select seedlings come from.

Pawpaws are native and well known in much of the eastern United States. They produce fruit that is reminiscent of their tropical relatives - the cherimoya, guanabana (aka: soursop), sweetsop, and custard apple. Harvest when fruit is slightly soft and gives when pressed by your thumb.

The pulp has big seeds that are easy to spoon out and discard or plant to grow additional trees. The tree has a tap root and grows slowly at first but makes a great exotic backyard fruit producer.

They grow naturally as an understory tree but can grow in full sun. Trees require partial shade for the first 2 years. Space about 8' apart. Fruit ripens in late September and October.

Pawpaws require cross-pollination, so 2 trees are necessary for the trees to produce fruit.
