Jersey blueberries are one of the most loved and widely planted blueberry varieties. Blueberry aficionados often say this is their favorite blueberry variety. Yields are consistently high, 10-20 pounds per bush at maturity. These are good sized berries with approximately 100 berries per cup. They are a very firm berry and have a very small picking scar.
It is a mid-season blueberry, ripening around July 30th in our area. Jersey is a great blueberry for fresh eating or processing. In fact, it is the most widely planted blueberry variety for processing. It is one of the best quality blueberries and a very good choice for the home garden or commercial production. It is very well known for its cold hardiness and drought resistance.
Harvesting can easily be done by hand or mechicanically. The clusters are long and loose. Good for eating out of hand, preserving, baking, and freezing.
Its growth habitat is upright and slightly spreading. Ornamental use is quite beautiful with its dark green leaf color and white, bell-shaped flowers. Fall color is a sustained burgundy red.
