Blue Ray blueberries are one of the best producing varieties. Yields are consistently high, 10-20 pounds per bush at maturity. These are large berries with approximately 60 berries per cup. They are a very firm berry and offer a full blueberry flavor when ripe. They have a very small picking scar are bright blue in color.
It is a mid-season blueberry, ripening around July 18th, a few days after BlueCrop. It is very drought resistant and cold hardy. Blue Ray is a great blueberry for fresh eating or processing. Good for eating out of hand, preserving, baking, and freezing. It is one of the best quality blueberries at this time of the year and a very good choice for the home garden or a great cultivar for the fresh market. It is famous for its abundant crops and winter hardiness.
Blue Ray is the most widely planted blueberry variety in the United States for U-Pick operations. Harvesting can easily be done by hand. It can also be mechanically harvested after the first 2 manual pickings. The clusters are open and medium/large in size.
Its growth habitat is upright and slightly spreading. Ornamental use is quite beautiful with its dark green leaf color and white, bell-shaped flowers. Fall color is a sustained burgundy red.
