A great collection of heirloom and uncommon grafted apple trees. They are all grafted onto EMLA 7 Rootstock which produces a semi-dwarf tree, standing 12-15' in height at maturity without pruning. It has exceptional winter hardiness and good anchorage. It does well in most soils, especially deep, fertile soil versus light sandy or heavy clay. Good for high lead or arsenic residue soils and old orchard sites with replant problems. EMLA 7 is moderately resistant to crown rot and very resistant to fireblight.
Ginger Gold is one of the best early-season apples. It has a nice crisp texture and a sweet/sharp and mildly tart flavor. It was a seedling found growing in a Virginia orchard in the 1960s. It is reported to be a good storage apple, keeping for several weeks. It ripens in mid to late August. Zone 5-9
Gold Rush is a modern disease-resistant apple variety related to Golden Delicious, with a sweet flavor, crisp hard flesh, and a good sugar / acid balance. It is great for fresh eating, and baking. A great choice for organic growers, it ripens in mid-late October. It was introduced in the 1990s by joint breeding program of Indiana, Illinois, and New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Stations. Zone 5-8
Winter Banana is an antique apple cultivar with high-quality fruit used for fresh eating, baking, juicing, drying, and hard ciders. The flesh is sweet/sharp and aromatic. They have a floral scent and flavor which is reminiscent of bananas. It ripens in late October. It originated in Indiana in the 1870s. Zones 4-9
Wolf River is an antique apple cultivar discovered in Wolf River, Wisconsin in the 1870s. It is well known and for good reason. It has an excellent sweet/sharp flavor and is mainly used for cooking. It is highly disease resistant and cold hardy. It ripes in late September. Zones 3-8
